The CyberKnife® System is a revolutionary technology that delivers high doses of targeted radiation. It is used for many tumors that were previously considered untreatable with surgery or radiation.

Unlike conventional surgery, CyberKnife procedures do not require a large incision or blood loss. Most patients require one to five treatments, each lasting 45 to 90 minutes per tumor. The CyberKnife procedure is usually painless and most patients go home the same day.

CyberKnife treatment results in potentially fewer complications than prostate removal surgery.

About radiosurgery

The CyberKnife is a stereotactic radiosurgery system. Stereotactic radiosurgery has been used for more than 30 years to deliver concentrated, high doses of radiation to benign and malignant brain tumors and blood vessel malformations. It is FDA approved to be used throughout the body.

How it treats prostate cancer

CyberKnife locates the tumor using x-ray image cameras and computer technology (similar to that used to guide cruise missiles).

A computer program evaluates the unique shape and location of the tumor to determine how each of 1,200 or more beams of radiation will target the tumor.

An x-ray source located on the CyberKnife's robotic arm delivers concentrated beams of radiation to targeted tumors from multiple positions and angles. The robotic arm has a wide range of motion, giving it maximum flexibility to reach tumors.

The CyberKnife continually checks and compensates for any movement you make during treatment, ensuring superior accuracy. Because of this pinpoint accuracy, CyberKnife can use higher doses of radiation to attack tumors.
